hillary, obama, and an iPhone note

Images okay, okay. i've made it clear here how i would like to see things go with the selection of the democratic candidate. (and yes, thank you to all in indiana who got out to vote for hillary.) but seriously people, even I am over this. (i'm so over it, i just used a capital 'i'.) i know there are things being negotiated and what the arguments (which i think might be valid) are....but i'm someone who enjoys watching politics, and even i'm over it. can we just get on with this thing?

in the meantime.....

Artiphoneapple to this day, i still love love love my iPhone. (then again, i've never been unhappy with any apple product i've ever bought. and you can trust me, because walking into my house is almost like walking into an apple store. only 2nd to maybe to walking into dr. dad's house. no, wait. i have the apple tv, the iPhone, a video iPod and a nano. so i beat dr. dad. ha!) but supposedly, they're now sold out awaiting the **new** ones!

part of me worries that they're going to come out with something that's gonna make me want a new one. (cuz...i mean....it's all new and stuff! then again, i'm still cool with my old 30 gig iPod, so.....maybe i'll be just fine. that's one thing i love about apple. last's forever. it's the same way i think about shoes, thanks to the good witch of the south, buy the good stuff and it lasts forever.)
;-)

all the best!

the iPhone is how much!?!? (and other apple stuff)

Productredbg20070905 okay. i know, i know. i'm a little late on this one. i've received emails from several of you who were concerned about my well-being, given the fact that i didn't post about this immediately. i want you to know that i am okay, and that i appreciate your concern. it's just that things are a little busy around here lately. not only do i have all the usual things going on, but i'm also working on a website for a friend of mine who is running for office (no, their name does not rhyme with iraq, or billary, nor were they a prominent figure on 9.11, and they have not been president - nor have they played one on t.v.). add to that, the pressure of kris reminding me that i had better get busy if i want to retain my HR power blog ranking, and well....what's a girl to do?

so, by now you all know that apple announced a few new products, along with the fact that they're dropping the price of the iPhone by $200. am i angry about this? nope. not one bit. look. i was completely aware of what i was doing when i bought the iPhone on the 2nd day (first, if you count in 24 hour periods). i know they'll come out with new versions and the price will drop. i waited a long time to buy an iPod for the very same reason. and i got a great deal on my iPod, so i kind of see it as all equaling out. am i upset they did it within 2 months? nope. not one bit. partially due to the fact that i absolutely love my iPhone. love it. the other reason i didn't get ticked off about it is this:

i have absolutely no control over apple or steve jobs and my getting mad would not change the fact that i bought it on the 2nd (or first) day. so i went, "huh. they're lowering the price to hit the christmas market. okay. that's the risk you run being an 'early adopter'. oh well." and about my business i went.

do i think it's the most brilliant thing that apple and steve jobs have done? nope. not one bit. maybe they're banking on a really really really big christmas to make up for the credits they're now having to give to all of us who were good, faithful, loyal apple fans who bought the phone early.

plus, there's the whole phasing out of the 4g deal. with apple TV, they came out with one and only one. within a couple of months, they'd come out with one with twice the space for about a hundred dollars more. the lesson apple is teaching us is: do not be an early adopter because we're not going to be coming out with better/newer stuff six months from now -- it'll only take us about two.

will that change my buying behavior? probably not. not if they keep coming out with products that i love as much as they do. they know what i want before i even know i want it. and that's kinda cool.

no. the only thing that has bothered me about the iPhone is this whole ringtone business. see, my mom's ringtone used to be "popular" from wicked. this was funny because my mother is "the good witch of the south" and she really wishes i'd listen when she tells me how to better fit in and dress appropriately and hates it when i say stuff out loud that everyone else keeps safely tucked inside their heads. (right mom?) so it made me laugh every time she called. so i'm anxiously awaiting the ability to make ringtones (and no, i don't mind paying for those either) just so i can make mom "popular" again.

now. if steve jobs wants to go and give me $100 because i was a good, faithful, loyal apple fan-girl and went and bought one on the 2nd (first) day, all the better! i'll just spend it at apple anyway. in fact, i really like the new video nanos. not that i need one, mind you. but they're just so darn cute! and they have a (product) red version, which means i can totally use the "it's good for humanity" excuse to shop! i love that!

by the way, the improvements to iLife are fabulous! i love the new features in iPhoto, especially the "events" and more advanced editing features (although, i'm still looking at photoshop lightroom - which i really like - and did upgrade to photoshop cs3). also, the new features in iWeb, including the albums set-up that allows for skimming (see my images page) rocks! i haven't had a chance to play with garage band or iMovie. and i haven't played with the new iWork products much yet either. but i'll let you know what i find as i do.

thanks again for all your cards and letters.
all the best!

skimming rocks!

Promo_ilifetour_20070807 no, this isn't a post about "skimming stones." this is about skimming. yes, folks. there's new stuff from apple. a new iMac, iLife '08, and new stuff on .Mac.

see steve jobs' presentation here.

the skimming feature in the new iPhoto rocks!

and, you might remember how i'd discovered the use of my iPhone as a portable portfolio. well, the new .Mac has a cool new web gallery feature (which will probably end up replacing my current photo page i build using iWeb) that syncs with the iPhone. this also has the skimming feature - which rocks.

i love these guys! it's like they read my mind and know what i want before i know i want it!

and for those who may be asking that question, the answers are:
1. probably not the iMac as i'm addicted to laptops now (but haven't ruled it out yet)
2. already have a .Mac account, so that'll be updated
3. of course iLife '08 is on it's way
;-)

all the best!

iLove my iPhone

Iphone you all know i love my iPhone. and CNN and USA Today are reporting on a survey today that says 90% of iPhone users are extremely happy with their purchase and 85% of them would recommend it to others. (also, 40% of people who bought iPhones have never owned an iPod, so apple wins there too.) no buyer's remorse here.

but it seems that some, like rowan, are tired of hearing about it. thus, he links to this site.

now that's funny.

iPhone - day six

Images2 so i've had the iPhone for six days, and am still ga-ga for it. i should clarify one thing. i held on to a seriously crappy (for lack of a better word) cell phone waiting for the iPhone. so this isn't like i've switched from another smart phone, and this may impact my fan-girly-ness a bit.

but here is one cool thing that i've discovered about my iPhone. many of you know that i've been delving into photography more and more. naturally, i put some of my photos onto my iPhone. i should tell you that the graphics are unbelievably clear. if you watch a video, are checking out pictures, or surfing safari (wasn't that a song?), the graphics are tack sharp. it makes my pictures look great! i've been having fun seeing pictures of my friends come up when they call. but i've found another use for the iPhone.

i was out and about one day. and someone asked about the iPhone, so i started showing them some of the features. i flipped over to photos and started scrolling through some of my shots. the person was impressed enough to ask me if i would do some photography work for them. voila! the iPhone is an instant portfolio! so now i'm going through and building a "book" to put on my iPhone, just to be prepared for the next opportunity. "here. you can see some of my work right here." fabulous.

see? the iPhone really is life-changing. (ha)

oh! and if you haven't seen "iPhone: the musical"....and believe me, you should...you can check it out here.

all the best!

p.s. i also just got another opportunity to do some photography work today. these are all free gigs thus far, but i'm grateful for the opportunity to practice and to learn. thing is, i don't care that they're free. i love doing it!

iGot the iPhone

Videos_start yes, folks. i did it. i got the iPhone yesterday. my biggest concern was the keyboard, but it's not bad at all. i've made some mistakes while getting used to it, but i've only had it for one day!

it has so many features that i haven't even had time to explore all of them yet!

safari is slow. the internet connection is most definitely slow. but i'd never planned for my phone to completely replace my computer anyway. (i actually think it's a good idea to be able to step AWAY from the computer now and again. ha!)

easy to use. awesome features. i love love love it!

i'll write more and attempt to gush less when i have more time. but i knew my faithful readers would want to know i'd bought one. (i knew this because you'd left comments and emailed. ha!)
;-)

hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!
all the best!

enjoy!

p.s. anyone getting one? i've waffled. talked myself out of it a couple of times. but i have a sneaking suspicion that i'll be buying one soon. it's just too good to resist.

youtube & apple tv

Images guess what? i'm watching old beatles videos from youtube on my big screen tv. how? apple tv had an update. i updated, and there was youtube. right there. just waiting for me to search for things. i thought it was cool enough that i could look up stuff like this online. now i can watch it on a big screen with home theater sound. technology is cool. yes it is.

all the best!

note to self

Ma128lla_125 note to self: an apple remote does not work well when laundered. (don't ask.)

note to fedex: when i order something to be delivered overnight, please don't leave me a nice note telling me that you've taken the thing i've expected to arrive today back to the place i just came from, a 35 minute drive away. gas is too expensive and it was too late by the time i got the note. next time, please just deliver the thing. thank you very much.

all the best!

innovation? really? but...but....we already knew this stuff

Images1 so what if i was stuck at work where i couldn't actually watch steve jobs keynote address at WWDC this afternoon? i mean, just because i went to the mac observer to get their play-by-play posting of the event, does that mean i'm a geek? ok. yes. it does. i'm a geek. that's okay. i embrace my geekdom.

so. what about today's keynote? well. i say....meh.
it was okay.
i mean, we knew most of this stuff was coming, right?

now the only thing about apple getting into gaming is that this could be a bad thing for me. see, there hasn't been any temptation of the additional distraction of games for a very very very long time. and i was fine with that. but really, there is no way i will not be checking out the harry potter game at the very least. (yes! i'm smack dead in the middle of mid-life and i like harry potter! AND i'm a geek! i'm okay with it, why aren't you?)

as for the leopard announcements, they were all very cool. the only problem is that we've heard most of it already. of course, i'm already sold on leopard. it's a given i'm going to buy it anyway. so this just wasn't very exciting to me.

now. what i really want to know is when can i get that harry potter game on my iPhone? i mean. you know. when i can get the iPhone.

all the best!
