okay. i know, i know. i'm a little late on this one. i've received emails from several of you who were concerned about my well-being, given the fact that i didn't post about this immediately. i want you to know that i am okay, and that i appreciate your concern. it's just that things are a little busy around here lately. not only do i have all the usual things going on, but i'm also working on a website for a friend of mine who is running for office (no, their name does not rhyme with iraq, or billary, nor were they a prominent figure on 9.11, and they have not been president - nor have they played one on t.v.). add to that, the pressure of kris reminding me that i had better get busy if i want to retain my HR power blog ranking, and well....what's a girl to do?
so, by now you all know that apple announced a few new products, along with the fact that they're dropping the price of the iPhone by $200. am i angry about this? nope. not one bit. look. i was completely aware of what i was doing when i bought the iPhone on the 2nd day (first, if you count in 24 hour periods). i know they'll come out with new versions and the price will drop. i waited a long time to buy an iPod for the very same reason. and i got a great deal on my iPod, so i kind of see it as all equaling out. am i upset they did it within 2 months? nope. not one bit. partially due to the fact that i absolutely love my iPhone. love it. the other reason i didn't get ticked off about it is this:
i have absolutely no control over apple or steve jobs and my getting mad would not change the fact that i bought it on the 2nd (or first) day. so i went, "huh. they're lowering the price to hit the christmas market. okay. that's the risk you run being an 'early adopter'. oh well." and about my business i went.
do i think it's the most brilliant thing that apple and steve jobs have done? nope. not one bit. maybe they're banking on a really really really big christmas to make up for the credits they're now having to give to all of us who were good, faithful, loyal apple fans who bought the phone early.
plus, there's the whole phasing out of the 4g deal. with apple TV, they came out with one and only one. within a couple of months, they'd come out with one with twice the space for about a hundred dollars more. the lesson apple is teaching us is: do not be an early adopter because we're not going to be coming out with better/newer stuff six months from now -- it'll only take us about two.
will that change my buying behavior? probably not. not if they keep coming out with products that i love as much as they do. they know what i want before i even know i want it. and that's kinda cool.
no. the only thing that has bothered me about the iPhone is this whole ringtone business. see, my mom's ringtone used to be "popular" from wicked. this was funny because my mother is "the good witch of the south" and she really wishes i'd listen when she tells me how to better fit in and dress appropriately and hates it when i say stuff out loud that everyone else keeps safely tucked inside their heads. (right mom?) so it made me laugh every time she called. so i'm anxiously awaiting the ability to make ringtones (and no, i don't mind paying for those either) just so i can make mom "popular" again.
now. if steve jobs wants to go and give me $100 because i was a good, faithful, loyal apple fan-girl and went and bought one on the 2nd (first) day, all the better! i'll just spend it at apple anyway. in fact, i really like the new video nanos. not that i need one, mind you. but they're just so darn cute! and they have a (product) red version, which means i can totally use the "it's good for humanity" excuse to shop! i love that!
by the way, the improvements to iLife are fabulous! i love the new features in iPhoto, especially the "events" and more advanced editing features (although, i'm still looking at photoshop lightroom - which i really like - and did upgrade to photoshop cs3). also, the new features in iWeb, including the albums set-up that allows for skimming (see my images page) rocks! i haven't had a chance to play with garage band or iMovie. and i haven't played with the new iWork products much yet either. but i'll let you know what i find as i do.
thanks again for all your cards and letters.
all the best!
