randy pausch, the last lecture, and six months and counting
if you've not yet watched the inspiring "last lecture" by randy pausch that began circulating last september, scroll down and find it on the left sidebar under "speeches" and watch it now. pausch has now written a book to delve deeper into the points made during his lecture. details about the book, the video of the lecture, and other resources can now be found at his website. (also, diane sawyer interviews pausch tonight on abc.)
the good news is that when pausch took the stage for his last lecture, he started his speech by announcing that he had six months to live. he's just past the six month mark. he gives regular updates on his battle with cancer here.
all the best!

Everyone should watch this. I saw it in September and it's great. A lot of food for thought. What is really important? I think it shows how much a positive attitude can play in a terminal illness and maybe he'll have another six months!

I've watched Randy on more than one occasion. You can tell he is one heck of a great guy. Handsome, personable and just a genuinely great human being. I've always believed that when folks pass on, the best part of them continues to live on in the lives of all the other folks they encountered, during their time on this planet. It's our duty to carry on their life after they have left us. Randy has touched so many people that his life and legacy will never die. God Bless this wonderful man and his family.

I just got through watching Randy's ABC special with Diane Sawyer tonight. It really touched home with me. My husband was diagnosed in Nov 2004 with bile duct cancer. He beat it for a while then was told in October 2006 that it was back and was terminal. It had spread to his pancreas, stomach, liver, lungs... you name it and cancer was attacking it. My husband died November 22, 2006 leaving behind 2 beautiful children. His dream was to open a nursery one day. And I am happy to say that on January 2006- my husband's dream of being a nurseryman came true. He was able to live this dream for almost 1 year before his death. I can tell you that I never saw my husband happier than when he was outside watering the flowers at his shop and letting his children experience what hsi passion was. Randy is an inspiration and so was my husband! Good luck Randy and Jai!

I just watched Diane Sawyer's special on Randy Pausch. What an inspiration!! My mother died of breast cancer in 1998. She never once complained or even told anyone she was in pain. She never said,"Why me?". Never once. She is a great inspiration to me and to my grandchildren of which all 8 of them know who she was even though not one of them ever met her. I work with students in three different districts in California. You can bet tomorrow, they will have heard of Randy Pausch's lecture. I wish the very best to Randy and his family. Long live his legacy.
God Bless each one of his family members.

How inspiring Randy Pausch is! If you liked "The Last Lecture", another fantastic memoir I just read and highly recommend is "My Stroke of Insight" by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. Her TEDTalk video (ted.com) has been seen as many times as The Last Lecture I think, and Oprah did 4 shows on her book, so there are a lot of similarities. In My Stroke of Insight, there's a happy ending though. It's an incredible story! I hear they're making it into a movie.
