step right up! come one, come all! it's the HR carnival!
wow! the HR carnival has grown since i last hosted!! so many great blogs! so many great submissions! let's get right to them, shall we? in no particular order, we have:
1) richard hankins workplace horizons telling a very scary story about the next level of "employee monitoring" where employers will be able to track heart rates and blood pressure, etc. and the possible implications of such a system.
2) lisa at HR thoughts brings us a piece on age discrimination, wisely advising us that one should take all factors into consideration and not assume discrimination.
3) at prasad kurian's blog, simplicity at the other side of complexity, we have the paradox of HR systems. (this was my first visit to prasad's blog, and i'm finding a lot of good, thought-provoking posts there!)
4) over at execupundit, michael wade advises us to rethink selection...and replace it with a talent evaluation process.
5) HR wench lightens things up a bit by suggesting we try job hunting if we need a laugh.
6) evil HR lady wants to make sure you take all your problems to HR. (well, maybe not all. the examples she listed were problems i'd be happy people keep to themselves.)
7) wally bock at three star leadership tells us that expectations are the boss's business. (right on, wally!)
8) wayne turmel, from the cranky middle manager show, gives us a post at management-issues about that latest craze, employee engagement with employee engagement has a ring to it.
9) alvaro fernandez writes on "brain plasticity, health and fitness books" saying, "Our brains are, literally, our major assets. Yet, we typically don't pay much attention to them. Here you have a list of 20 popular science books on the brain and learning that provide a fascinating read and window into our minds."
10) at ask a manager, we get info on training people from day one. (what a great idea!)
11) peggy andrews writes about some thoughts on purpose (part 1), even reminding us that purpose is something that typically comes to us over time and not in one flash of blinding light.
12) joe at uncle joe's leadership blog asks what does your organization invest in, emphasizing the importance of finding the right person for your organization.
and just due to my warped sense of humor, and with a nod to the evil HR lady's call to take all your problems to HR.....i'll direct you to my latest on HR, which list some of my least favorite parts about the job.
and that wraps up the latest edition of the HR carnival!
the next HR carnival will be hosted on february 6th by wally bock at three star leadership!
all the best!
